Ministry Teams

Jonesville United Methodist Church is an active, thriving, faith-based community. There are many people who help to keep our church running.

The teams include:

Administrative Council

Administrative Council is the decision-making body of the church. As The Book of Discipline describes, “It provides for planning and implementing programs of nurture, outreach, witness, and resources for individuals and families of all ages…It envisions, plans, implements, and evaluates the mission and ministry of the church.” Administrative Council is comprised of the chairpersons of all ministry teams in the church, as well as the lay leader, two at-large members, the pastor, and the Council chairperson. It meets the third Tuesday of every month except December and July.

Caring Ministries

The Caring Ministries Team provides short-term support to meet the needs of members in the form of meals and correspondence.

Education Ministries

The Education Committee is the planning and action team that runs the children’s education program for Jonesville UMC. We recruit volunteers to teach Sunday School, research and provide the curriculum, make the schedules, maintain student registration and attendance records (with the help of the JUMC office folks), coordinate and schedule Children’s Church and Nursery volunteers, hold gatherings for students outside of Sunday School (fun nights), hold 2 fundraisers(Cookie Walk and Plant Sale) to support our program and provide Christmas presents to local children in need through the Southern Saratoga County Chamber Angels.

Green Team

The JUMC Green Team is focused on activities that promote preservation and stewardship of God's creation by promoting awareness about the social, economical, environmental and general quality of life implications resulting in the abuse of the earth's resources. In support of this we host events and develop opportunities to educate with effective ways to contribute to this mission to make a positive impact on the environment.

The team reaches out to broader groups within the community to exchange ideas and share successes that support our mission. We strive to meet general Green standards within the church facilities. The Green Team maintains a community garden in support of the food pantry by providing healthy, local, organic vegetables and herbs among it's many initiatives.

Membership Development

Develops and strengthens evangelistic efforts of Christian experience, faith, and service. In charge of membership care with attention given to the needs of individuals and families of all ages.

Working with the pastor, we have helped in the new membership process and meetings. We have recruited mentors for new members. During fellowship time after both services, we have provided coffee, tea, juice, and snacks. In conjunction with this, we have worked with the Outreach Ministries team to use Fair Trade coffee. Using the congregation, we have scheduled a list of rotating volunteers for Coffee Hour, and Greeters for the 10:30 service. In the news letter, we have initiated notes designed to keep congregants mindful of creating an encouraging environment for visitors. In addition the Membership Development Ministry team sponsors and organizes the pictorial directory of the church members. We are responsible for adopting the part of Main Street in Jonesville, from 146A to MacElroy. Twice a year, the church will clean up that section of the county road.

Outreach Ministry Team

Gives attention to local and larger ministries of compassion, justice, and advocacy. Works to raise the congregation's awareness of issues and mission needs of local, national, and international focus. Interacts with organizations and missions beyond the congregation.

Staff/Parish Relations Committee

The Staff/Parish Relations Committee confers with pastors and staff on matters pertaining to the effectiveness of ministry, relations with the congregation and conditions that may impede the effectiveness of ministry. It evaluates annually the pastor and staff and confers with them about continuing educational needs and spiritual renewal. It recommends to the Administration Council when new staff positions are needed or when staff members are replaced, and it also consults with the District Superintendent on pastoral appointments.

Technology Team

The Technology Team is comprised of several members of JUMC who have expressed an interest in the use of technology at the church. The Technology Group has been charged with the maintenance of the computers, audio visual (AV) equipment, phones and software systems. In addition, the Technology Team is responsible for the church website.

United Methodist Women (UMW)

The UMW here at Jonesville UMC follows the national Women’s Division disciplines. The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. The United Methodist Women also fosters spiritual growth, develops leaders, and advocates for justice. Our programs and projects are related to women, children and youth.

Worship Team

The Worship Team/Committee operates, in many ways, as the Stage Director of the Worship Services. The team handles altar decorations, keeping the brass candlesticks polished and the altar cloths/and covering ready for worship. The music team is a subset of Worship though the individual hymns are neither selected nor approved by the team.

The coordination of acolytes, ushers, and communion servers/preparers are responsibilities of the Team. Additionally team members volunteer to see that the “I Wish” cards are available in the pews. The Wedding Coordination Team and the Altar Decoration Team are subsets of the Worship Team as well.
